Embedded Ice

Hello,
We are working with CMU on a robot solution for use in education at the university level. It will be a continuation of the PER.

Our new platform uses an ARM9 with 8Mbytes flash and 16 Mbytes of SDRAM and runs Linux 2.4. We have been looking at various middleware solutions that are suitable for robot teleoperation. We like Ice because it appears to require less resources than CORBA. Since resources appear to be our biggest constraint, I was wondering if anyone has any advice on how to reduce the footprint (e.g. we probably don't need SSL or publish/subscribe). Is there an easy way slim things down a bit (on the server side, which will be our robot)?

Any information would be greatly appreciated!

We are working on an embedded solution for Ice that sounds perfect for your application. The initial version that will be released shortly will support Linux, Windows and Windows CE (ARMv4).

Regards, Matthew
