make test fails with Python 2.0

I was using following SW versions on self-made Linux installation:

Linux 2.4.20 (SMP)
gcc 3.2
xerces-c 2.2.0
BerkeleyDB 4.1
OpenSSL 0.9.6
Python 2.0

The problem was gone after I updated Python to 2.2.2.
